Celebrating Mom in Orange County – May 2014
Mother’s Day is fast approaching this Sunday, May 11. So what do you plan on getting your mom or mother figure in your life? We’ve spent the better part of the last month trying to decide what to get our dear moms this year. Then it dawned on us that sometimes an experience is far more meaningful than a gift.
Living in Orange County, we are spoiled by the great weather, great shopping, fun outdoor activities, and more … so why not take advantage of it all. With that in mind, we decided for this Mother’s Day, we would turn it into an excursion. Planning an exciting day out with mom is less stressful and way more satisfying than wandering around the mall Saturday night aimlessly trying to decide what to buy.
Check out the suggestions below and let us know in the comments what you have planned for Mother’s Day.
Time: From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Brunches are a staple of any Mother’s Day, so spend yours in style at the spectacular Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach where you and your family can enjoy scenic ocean views and a beautifully chef-crafted brunch. For Mother’s Day brunch this year, The Resort at Pelican Hill is definitely on our go-to list.
Treat your mom and yourself to a day of pampering at one of Orange County’s finest spas, conveniently located within the Island Hotel, which is directly across the street from Fashion Island in Newport Beach.
Catch a great show at the renowned Segerstrom Center in Costa Mesa this Mother’s Day with performances ranging from music acts to plays (i.e. Peter and the Wolf, From Screen to Score, and more).
Time: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
For active and nature-loving moms, Laguna Canyon Resource Specialist Laura Cohen leads a beautiful two-mile hike to the top of Little Sycamore Canyon.
Time: 8am to 11 a.m.
Be at the forefront of a new exercise craze that is a combination of yoga + hiking. It’s a great morning workout that has panoramic views from the East Loma Ridge atop Limestone Canyon. No prior yoga experience is needed, but be sure you and your mom bring a yoga mat.
Time: 8am to 11 a.m.
A relaxing and carefree walk through the San Joaquin Marsh’s led by Sea & Sage Audubon Society where you and mom can learn more about the native birds of the area.
These are just a few activities we’re looking forward to for Mother’s Day, but feel free to comment below with your suggestions.
