Why You Need An Apartment With A Garage

(title image provided by Christopher Matson)

Trust us, you NEED an apartment with a garage. If you don't think so, then read through our list of reasons and let us know if you still feel the same way afterward. You might or you might not, either way, we're pretty sure we've at least planted the seed in considering that rental living is a lot better when you have your own private garage.

Safety

No matter where you live and how safe the city might be, things are definitely more secure when you have your own private garage. We've seen car thefts become a problem in even the safest of suburban cities. Why take a chance? You don't want to deal with the risk of getting your car broken into, getting valuable possessions stolen, and the subsequent headache of dealing with law enforcement and insurance companies. Not to mention that feeling of someone invading such a personal and intimate space like your car. Well, a personal garage greatly reduces that risk.

Guaranteed Parking

If you've rented before and this ain't your first rodeo with apartment communities, then you know how complicated and frustrating it can be to find parking. Same goes for any guests that may come visit. With a personal garage, you always have a guaranteed space to park your car. It's a little thing that goes a real long way in terms of convenience and making your life easier. If you're entertaining guests, you can park your car elsewhere if spots are available and reserve your garage for them so that they don't have to deal with the hassle. Parking is never going to be a perfect for everyone involved but a personal garage makes things a little bit easier.

Workout Area/Personal Gym

All you need to do pull your car out and voilà, your own personal workout area. And you can do it without needing to invest in thousands of dollars of workout equipment. You could go that route but even if you had a few dumbbells, a medicine ball, a yoga mat for ab workouts, or a kettle bell or two, that's more than enough to work with to stay in shape sans ridiculous fees and crowded gyms in peak hours. You could even pick up a plyo ladder for some solid cardio workouts. If you really want to do it on the cheap, you can even tape your own plyo ladder to the floor using blue painter's tape. Working out in your unit can be a pain even if you have the space in your apartment; especially if you live on the second floor. No one wants to hear their neighbor upstairs stomping around and causing a ruckus during their workout. We digress, point is... apartment with a garage = perfect personal workout area! Check out another one of our blogs if you need ideas on workouts you can do at home or in your garage.

Man Cave... or Woman Cave

Do woman caves exist yet? They should. No reason the gentleman should have all the fun, right? Either way, if storing your car isn't of prime importance or you just need a space to detach/decompress, you can deck out your garage into a personalized space for him or her. No need to even go full man-cave; you can turn it into a quick temporary one (see pic below). Outfit it with a couch or two, maybe a little bar area, or space to play some poker and you are well on your way. We dig the idea of man cave pictured below; simple, temporary, yet effective.

Working Space for DIY/Art Projects

The garage can be an excellent working space for all of you Do It Yourself-ers and artists. Let's face it, you don't want to be doing any handywork or art projects in your apartment... especially the ones that have the potential to be messy and cluttered. With a garage, you have the opportunity to sprawl out, make it your little workshop, and not have to worry about scuffing up furniture or having a messy area to look at in the interim when you aren't working. It's also a good place to store any large tools or materials you may be using for the duration of your project.

Storage Space

We're not trying to encourage any hoarding tendencies anyone has, but a garage does give you a few more storage options. This is especially useful with larger tools, sports equipment, or big bulky containers that may nnot necessarily fit neatly in your unit. Don't fret, there are ways to keep your garage neat and tidy while utilizing it as a storage space as well.  See below, just make sure to check with your property managers on what add-ons are ok or not in your garage.
